On behalf of our client, a smaller, worldwide active Life Sciences start-up group (focus on hemato-oncology) with a location in Basel, we are seeking candidates for the newly established position as „Regional Medical Director“:

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the VP Medical Affairs Europe, but with collaboration with the Executive Director Medical Affairs Europe, other Regional Medical Directors and regional Medical Affairs functions as well as Global Medical Affairs and Global Clinical Development Functions
  • Close interaction with local (country) medical directors with respect to allocated disease area(s) (Hematology or Solid Tumors) to assure strategic dialogue considering local specifics and input as well as global and regional guidance
  • Accountability for the regional input into the global product and indication strategies and works closely with local country medical directors to assure alignment across global, regional and local strategies, messaging as well as tactical implementation
  • Matrix leadership in the disease area
  • Proactive contribution to global brand and disease area strategies, including gap analyses, identification of areas of interest with respect to ISR, publication planning, regional data-dissemination (e.g. company sponsored symposia, congress submissions, medical education activities), and regional HCP interactions/outreach (e.g. investigator meetings, advisory boards)
  • Close collaboration with regional commercial teams regarding pre-launch, launch and commercialization support, assuring timely medical input and accuracy of medical / scientific content
  • Accountable to develop regional strategies to support enduring and compliant relationships with Opinion Leaders, Research Collaborators, and Key Organizations in support of the group’s pipeline development across the allocated disease area
  • Play a key role in the establishment of the group as a valued collaborator and best-in-class biopharmaceutical company
  • Establish and maintain scientifically credible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with key national & regional opinion leaders in addition to other healthcare providers, and be viewed as a Scientific Partner by KOLs
  • Facilitate & monitor strategic partnerships with scientific/clinical experts and serve as a regional-level point of contact with organizations, incl. guideline development, cooperative groups, and other (regional/national cancer institutions)
  • Facilitate & monitor strategic partnerships with other functional areas within the group
  • Leadership in the development and execution of clinically relevant regional medical meetings (e.g., advisory boards, consultant, and investigator meetings), as requested
  • Develop, track, execute and report on goals and objectives
  • Support disease area Medical Affairs budget planning and management
  • Be accountable for compliant business practices

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience and success within other biotech/pharmaceutical companies
  • Track record of experience (clinical and industry) in the field of Hemato-Oncology
  • Fluency in English; any other major European languages would be a plus
  • High level of communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, organizational, and cross functional collaboration skills
  • Flexibility to work with colleagues in a global setting
  • Able to engage in work-related travel (approximately 50%)
  • Impactful verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic environment
  • Strong comprehension of disease states, and knowledge of differential algorithms for treatment decisions and experience in disease states of interest to the group
  • An expert understanding of the health care delivery system, including the managed care arena and its impact on patient care, regional medical care and the pharmaceutical industry. Ability to identify the unmet medical, educational, and research needs at a local & regional level in the medical community
  • Ability to interpret key scientific data and translate the findings to meet educational and research needs to affect corporate research strategic activities/decisions
  • Understanding of the design and execution of research studies and strategic implications
  • Exhibits high degree of emotional intelligence and appreciation of diversity and multiculturalism
  • Designs and/or leads training initiatives and best practices
  • Proven ability to drive results at a high level of quality as a strategic and creative thinker
  • Demonstrates ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in an ever-changing environment
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage projects and/or colleagues in successful implementation of business-critical projects
  • Strong time management & organizational skills
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Initially, there will be no direct reports. As the portfolio in the disease area expands, regional medical resources will need to increase leading to supervisory responsibilities within the disease area
