For our customer, a leading multinational industry group headquartered in the Fribourg area (French part of Switzerland), we are seeking a Patent Attorney:
Responsibilities:
• Effectively advise all divisions and business units regarding the development and implementation of IP strategies
• Preparation and prosecution of high quality patent applications
• Providing patentability, invalidity, and non-infringement opinions
• Appealing to adverse decisions from government patent offices
• Conducting patent searches
• Filing and conducting patent opposition proceedings in the assigned region’s governmental patent offices
• Coverage of all aspects of patents during their entire lifecycle (not only drafting of applications and prosecution work)
• Supporting the regional headoffice managers in conducting patent clearance and assertion tasks affecting the assigned region, and in analyzing third party infringement allegations and assertions affecting business operations in the assigned region
• Effectively maintain and expand the relevant global patent portfolio
• Effectively advise the regional headoffice on IP matters in Licensing, Marketing, M&A, Litigation and other projects and transactions
• Performing other duties and ad hoc projects, as assigned
Requirements:
• University degree, preferably in a technical field such as, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Electrotechnology) or micro technical field
• European Qualifying Examination (EQE; European Patent Attorney); other IPR related qualifications would be a plus
• At least 6 years of relevant working experience; experience in an international technology environment would be plus
• Demonstrated understanding and command of patent laws and regulations, processes and procedures, including Patent Office practices and procedures, and Patent Cooperation Treaty rules and practices
• Fluency in English and French (spoken and written); German and/or other major languages would be a plus
• Logically minded and used to strategic thinking, with excellent problem-solving skills, high degree of analysis, judgment and decisiveness
• Strong interpersonal skills, sense for urgency and priorities, ability to work both independently and as member of a team
• Willingness to occasionally travel worldwide
